For 14th Year, Karate School Hosts Less Fortunate Children

By Al Campbell

WHITESBORO — About 70 children enjoyed a day of fun, food and ended with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus on Sat., Dec. 11, thanks to Hamer’s School of Karate.
Held in the Martin Luther King Community Center, the party for less fortunate youngsters was festive, filled with smiles and great anticipation for the upcoming holiday.
Grand Master Burgess “Butch” Hamer, school owner and a retired Middle Township police officer, said the number of children was fewer this year, due to fewer donations, although the need is real, and more could have been the presents and treats.
Highlight of the day’s event was the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus, who descended in the bucket of the Cape May Court House Fire Co. Number 1 aerial ladder.
