Joy to the world! Let the carols begin!
For the first 11 months of the year a routine life I lead
But when I first hear a Christmas carol I immediately have a need
To clear my mind of wintry thoughts as temperatures start to drop
Looking for that bright Eastern star that will light the manger’s top.
I can slowly feel the joyful pangs of my weak and patched-up heart
Put my aches and fears aside …rejuvenate with a brand-new start
For soon a Savior will be given unto us and clear my path ahead
Without this yearly renewal of my faith I might as well be dead.
This pre-Christmas Advent season is my personal time to reflect
On negative actions that surround me in a world that is not perfect
Yet I know that when God sent his only son as His gift to each of us
It was our greatest present, unwrapped, untied, simple…no fuss!
Remember that each of us was created in God’s own image…it’s true
And He sees no physical differences between me and you
My prayer tonight is that we all can once again get back to “caring”
And reflect on what Christmas really means to us…a quiet time of “sharing.”
God, please grant us peace in our world but mostly let it show in our hearts!
