Cut Holly for a Wreath

By Herald Staff

By Paul Will
Many years ago as a young boy growing up in the Cape May area I can remember my mother sending my brothers and me out to cut down a tree for Christmas. Way back then, there were lots of trees to choose from.
Now, houses replace the coastal forest where we spent hundreds of hours playing. Along with the tree, Mom would ask us to find holly with red berries so she could make a nice wreath.
The holly trees were everywhere and we always pleased Mom with a great tree and holly. Here it is, 63 years later and I can remember those special days at Christmas like they were yesterday.
Thanks, Mom, for the best days of our lives.
Merry Christmas.
