SWAINTON – Ken Strain loves decorating his home for Christmas. In years past, Strain has been praised by friends and family for his displays, and has had photos featured of his decorated home on HGTV, which he submitted to the network following a friend’s urging.
“All of my friends who come to my Christmas party compliment me on the work I do,” Strain said. “So I thought, I have nothing to lose.”
This year, Strain will use his Christmas display to hold his first fundraiser for the Cape May County Animal Shelter Dec. 5 in his backyard from 6-8 p.m. at 134 Swainton Goshen Road, Court House.
“I like that the animal shelter is very clean and friendly,” said Strain. “I’m an animal lover without a doubt.”
Visitors will see lights strung on the outside of Strain’s garage, his chicken coop, and his potting sheds in the backyard, which took a summer for him to build, each. Guests will have a chance to visit with Santa Claus and two of his elves, who will hand out candy canes, cookies, and hot chocolate.
“I would say that the theme of my display is simple, tasteful,” said Strain.
Strain asks that visitors make a donation to the Cape May County Animal Shelter in the form of cash or supplies. Supplies may include but are not limited to cat and dog food, toys, leashes, peanut butter, mops, and bleach. There will be a jar accepting monetary donations as well.
Strain reminds others that if they can’t make it to the fundraiser, they can make a donation directly to the shelter.
“The goal of the fundraiser would be to give the animals at the shelter a nice Christmas too,” said Strain.
