CAPE MAY – Share the holiday spirit on Cape May’s longest-running and most popular holiday tour, the Christmas Candlelight House Tour, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) Sat., Dec. 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Gather family and friends or venture out on your own on this self-guided tour of Cape May’s Victorian homes, churches, inns and hotels, all beautifully decorated for Christmas. You will be welcomed with hospitality and warmth to enjoy lots of good old-fashioned cheer, carols by candlelight, strolling musicians, and vintage holiday decorations.
The Victorian properties featured on this tour include the following: The Albert Stevens Inn, 127 Myrtle Avenue; Beauclaire’s B&B Inn, 23 Ocean St.; Congress Hall Hotel, Congress Place; The Dormer House, 800 Columbia Ave.; The Fairthorne Inn, 111 Ocean St.; Hotel Macomber, 727 Beach Ave.; Inn at the Park, 1002 Washington St.; The John F. Craig House, 609 Columbia Ave.; The John Wesley Inn, 30 Gurney St.; The Linda Lee, 725 Columbia Ave.; The Mason Cottage, 623 Columbia Ave.; The Queen Victoria, 102 Ocean St.; The Summer Cottage Inn, 613 Columbia Ave.; The Thomas Webster House, 933 Washington St.; Victorian Lace Inn, 901 Stockton Ave.; The White Dove Cottage, 619 Hughes St.; The Wilbraham Mansion, 133 Myrtle Ave. and The Wood Residence, 205 Fourth Ave.
Christmas Candlelight House Tours also include a visit to Cape May’s authentically decorated Victorian house museum, the Emlen Physick Estate at 1048 Washington St., and the exhibit “An Old-Fashioned Christmas: Holiday Traditions through the Years” in the Carriage House Gallery located on the grounds of the Physick Estate. The exhibit’s main attraction will be the Dickens Village collection beneath the bough of a giant Christmas tree. This impressive Department 56 collection was generously donated by Ernie and Betsy Heegard.
Two conveniently located hospitality centers, at Cape Island Baptist Church at Columbia & Gurney Streets and The Carriage House at the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., will be open from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., allowing visitors to rest and enjoy warm beverages and traditional goodies. Free shuttle service on heated trolleys is provided throughout the evening.
Admission to the Christmas Candlelight House Tour is $25 for adults and $20 for children (ages 3 to 12). The tour is limited; it is strongly recommended that tickets be reserved in advance by calling 609-884-5404 or 800-275-4278 or visiting www.capemaymac.org. Any remaining tickets on the day of the tour may be purchased at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth, Washington and Ocean streets. Properties on tour are subject to change.
The final Christmas Candlelight House Tour of the 2011 holiday season will be held on Sat., Dec. 17.
