Avalon to Celebrate Nation’s Birthday with Symphony

AVALON – The Borough of Avalon will celebrate our nation’s birthday on Thursday, July 4th with many activities including a world-class symphony concert and the largest fireworks display in southern New Jersey.
The highlight of the July 4th celebration in Avalon includes a performance from the Bay-Atlantic Symphony, who will be presenting a free patriotic concert inside Avalon Community Hall on Thursday, July 4th at 7:00pm. No tickets are needed for the symphony concert; seating will be done on a first come, first served basis.
The Bay-Atlantic Symphony will begin its seventh summer of Avalon performances with a program entitled “Lincoln and Liberty”. Conducted by Music Director Jed Gaylin, the concert will be an all-American patriotic celebration of our country. Brigadier General (Retired) Jeffrey L. Pierson, Sr., will be the guest conductor for a rendition of “Stars and Stripes Forever”. General Pierson served in the United States Army with 42 years of military service and over 30 years of federal Technician Service. Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi will be the narrator for Aaron Copland’s stirring “A Lincoln Portrait”.
Following the concert, Avalon will present a spectacular fireworks display at the 30th Street beach set to patriotic music. The public is encouraged to listen to the simulcast of the music on local radio station WCZT 98.7FM..the Coast.
There are also many activities throughout Avalon during the day on July 4th. At 9:30 a.m., field faces will be held on the athletic field at 10th Street and Dune Drive. At 3:00 p.m., Avalon will hold its famous July 4th Boat Parade; pre-registration is available at Avalon Community Hall (609) 967-3066. And, the Avalon Department of Recreation presents its 4th of July Family Fun Fest between 6:00-9:00 p.m. at 30th Street beach next to Community Hall with games, activities, and fun for the entire family.
