Ambulance Corps Deliver Holiday Cheer

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY – Each year, members of the Sea Isle Ambulance Corps fill an emergency response vehicle with Christmas presents and personally deliver gifts to patients spending the holidays at Cape Regional Medical Center in Cape May Court House. To ensure that the experience is memorable and extra-cheery for the patients, volunteers wear festive attire and stroll though the hospital’s floors pushing a customized sleigh mounted to the top of an ambulance stretcher.
This year, on Dec. 18, ambulance corps members made their 25th annual holiday hospital visit. Accompanying them were several “elves” from the community, including Santa Claus (Sea Isle City Mayor Leonard Desiderio) and numerous city employees – all of whom were eager to spread holiday cheer. Leading the charge was Ambulance Corps Chief Phyllis Linn.
“This was the 25th year we held this event,” said Linn. “More than 200 patients received gifts, including nearly ten children. We visited each of the hospital’s four floors, from the ER to the ICU, and we also gave presents to nurses, doctors and other staff members. Afterwards, because the hospital was not as full as we anticipated, we delivered the remaining gifts to the residents of Ocean View Center. No matter what their age, every patient was excited to see Santa Claus.”
To make this uplifting trip possible, ambulance corps volunteers collected donations from local businesses and private donors.
