A Break from North Pole for No. 1 Couple

By Kirby Reed

STONE HARBOR – The Reeds at Shelter Haven hosted two very important guests last week when Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus took a well-deserved vacation here from July 17 to 27.
The joyful duo could be spotted around town all week and Santa happily posed with fans both young and old, but it was the Santa-loving ladies that had Mrs. Claus keeping a tight grip on her husband.
“They come running up and they are all after my man,” said Mrs. Claus. “The women just come right up and they can’t wait to hug and kiss him, give him a big squeeze. But it’s OK, he’s so loveable, how could you not?”
Santa’s busy agenda included ceramic painting at Island Studio, a sailing lesson at the Stone Harbor Yacht Club, and ice cream at Springer’s.
“The people have been friendly, the kids have been absolutely adorable,” said Santa. “We were even able to take some kids off of the naughty list.”
One part of their trip that the Clauses’ found particularly interesting was the town’s recovery efforts following Hurricane Sandy.
“I found the beach replenishment fascinating,” said Mrs. Claus. “To go down and watch the sand coming in and all the equipment, the children with their hard hats becoming honorary inspectors – it was very exciting!”
When chatting with Santa, the children were quick to remind him what they wanted for Christmas this year. The most asked for item? “X-Box,” said Santa, with a laugh. “Lot’s of requests for X-Box.”
Santa and Mrs. Claus departed The Reeds at Shelter Haven on July 27, but not before leaving a little something special behind.
“We brought some of the cold down with us from the North Pole,” said Santa, with a wink. For Christmas in July, that might be the greatest gift of all.
