An orthotic shoe insert should take into consideration all the demands on your feet. The foot can move in multiple directions as well as support the weight of the body while just standing still. It’s important to use the right technology to assess your foot while it’s in motion and static. Some providers only offer ‘static casting.’ The patient lies down on a table and places the foot in a foam block to create an imprint. A static force plate is like a bathroom scale, only more sensitive. The device shows the pressure areas of the foot and recommends pre-made orthotics inserts based on that input. These technologies have the limitations of measuring the foot in a static position.
