COURT HOUSE — Volunteers in Medicine will offer an informative clinic Feb. 5, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for patients struggling to understand the Affordable Care Act. Certified Application Counselors from CompleteCare will be on-site at VIM to assist patients register for Medicad and /or choose an affordable insurance package on the Exchange. VIM staff and Volunteers will also be available for assistance and general information.
“Everyone is affected in some way,” Execuitve Director, Jackie Meiluta said. “Some VIM patients now qualify for Medicaid, whereas before they earned too much. Some patients may elect to participate in the new exchange and buy insurance. Many people will be caught in the middle – too much for Medicaid, not enough for premiums, co-pays and deductibles.”
Volunteers in Medicine of Cape May County (VIM) is in its twelfth year of “neighbors caring for neighbors.” More than 4,000 patients have benefited from the physicians and staff who volunteer their time and talents to provide quality medical care to the uninsured an dunderserved who meet VIM’s financial eligibility requirements. The staff also educates patients and encourages them to play an active role in their own health care and maintenance.
