WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo (R-2nd) Aug. 26 announced two federal grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Rural Development office to assist local organizations with medical services and public safety.
One of those grants is for Cape May County’s Volunteers in Medicine Inc. (VIM), a non-profit agency that provides free primary eye care to the uninsured. VIM will receive a grant of $15,496 to purchase medically-related equipment.
The other grant is for the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, which will receive a grant of $48,430 to purchase a fire company command vehicle with modifications.
“USDA Rural Development funds have been very effective in helping our communities and organizations with improving public health and safety services in our communities. During these difficult economic times, we must continue to look towards these types of innovative solutions and beneficial partnerships,” said LoBiondo.
