COURT HOUSE — Do you strain to hear when someone is speaking? Do you often ask family and friends to repeat themselves? Do you have difficulty hearing on the telephone? If so, you are not alone, approximately 36 million American Adults have reported some degree of hearing loss.
The Hearing Loss Association – South Jersey Shore Chapter was created and is designed to bring together the people of the community who are hard of hearing. Members share strategies and tips for coping with a hearing loss. They also provide information on assistive listening devices, such as, captioned telephones and web captioning and also advocate for communication accessibility for the hard of hearing.
Do you have used hearing aids that you would like to donate? The group is accepting used hearing aids as a drop off point to send them in to be refurbished and distributed to NJ residents in need. The venture is supported by NJ Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Sertoma, and Montclair University. Feel free to stop by and drop off used hearing aids for donation.
The next monthly meeting is Aug. 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Maruchi Room at Cape Regional Medical Center. Join us to meet others like you and hear about our experiences.
Save the date for Sept. 18 & Oct. 16. In Oct., the group will host Traci Burton, field representative from the NJ Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DDHH). Traci will discuss what the DDHH has to offer and will also bring assistive listening devices to show what is available. Meetings are held on the third Wed. of each month.
