Red Cross Platelet Drive to Be Held March 29

OCEAN CITY — A Red Cross platelet drive will be hosted by St. John Lutheran Church March 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The donor bus will be parked outside the church on 10th Street at Central Avenue in Ocean City.
Because the process of platelet donation takes approximately two hours and there are only four beds on the bus, appointments are needed. Blood is drawn from the donor’s arm and goes into a blood cell separator. Platelets and some plasma are reserved and the rest is returned to the donor. Platelets only last five days after donation and are needed every day.
