STONE HARBOR — The Borough of Stone Harbor is joining in a new effort to help the state’s communities get on the path to active living and healthier lifestyles through the Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC). The town has developed a free 10-week wellness program for their community that will run Feb. 18 through May 6, 2015. One challenge of the MWC is to track the number of steps they take on a daily basis (with pedometers supplied by the campaign) and submit their results every week. With the campaign only one week underway, MWC has already walked a total of 727 miles collectively as a group in just seven days. That’s equivalent to walking from Stone Harbor, New Jersey to Charleston, South Carolina!
The campaign continued its ‘Wellness Wednesday’ lecture series on Feb. 25, 2015 featuring Dr. Robert Olivieri, Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist and Board Certified Chiropractic Orthopedist, and his team at Olivieri Chiropractic & Rehabilitation Center. Participants of the MWC were offered a realistic spin on what we, as Americans, should be cognizant of when it comes to our health and nutrition.
The World Health Organization completed a study of over 100 health care systems of all major industrialized countries in the world which showed the United States ranked as #1 in crisis care. The U.S. has the best medical emergency care in the world. However, in the same study, the U.S. was ranked #50 in health care performance in 2009; and presently ranked #41 in life expectancy. The Unites States spends more on health care than any other country in the world and its citizens have the worst health of any industrialized nation. “Researching statistics such as these are staggering to me,” reports Dr. Robert Olivieri. “The United States deserves better. At Olivieri Chiropractic & Rehabilitation Center, we have a unique opportunity to help educate and heal our patients, but it starts with programs such as Stone Harbor’s Mayors Wellness Campaign to give our community the tools and resources it needs to be proactive.”
Dr. Olivieri’s own personal awareness campaign doesn’t stop with MWC. Since 1998, he has volunteered his time at the Cape May County Police Academy providing training to instructors and basic recruits to first understand the physiology and anatomy of the body, then demonstrates proper stretching techniques, along with injury prevention & recovery practices. “Our gratitude runs deep the countless hours Dr. Olivieri has donated to educating our full time employees and basic recruits,” stated Director of the Cape May County Police Academy, Tom DePaul. “The program he offers is extremely well received and the message he delivers protects our uniforms, and in turn, our citizens.”
