COURT HOUSE – Was it a rash of cabin fever after being shut in three days because of a nasty nor’easter, rain, wind and tidal flooding that drew flu-shot seekers to Bayberry Road about 6 a.m. Oct. 4? That was a full two hours before the county’s free flu shot clinic was to open.
Perhaps because flu shots are readily available at many drug stores, the massive lines of previous years did not materialize for the county-sponsored free flu drive thru clinic at Kindle Ford as of about 11:30 a.m.
The clinic distributed just over 1,800 shots, said county Health Department Director Kevin Thomas, who directed cars into service bays where waiting gloved hands prepared to quickly immunize against the flu germs.
After a check of pre-filled forms that screened recipients, those health personnel injected the influenza vaccine and motorists and passengers were quickly back on the road.
Participating was the Health Department, county Facilities and Services Department, Sheriff’s Office, County MIS (Management Information Services), Cape May County Medical Reserve Corp, Cape Regional Medical Center nurses, Stockton University nursing faculty and students and Cape May County Technical School Licensed Practical Nurse faculty and students.
