COURT HOUSE – Freeholder Gerald M. Thornton announced that the County’s Crest Haven Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center will host a special event on Monday, May 9, 2011 to kick off National Nursing Home Week.
Crest Haven will hold its annual Walk and Wheel program starting at 9 a.m. The event brings students from area schools to the center to walk with residents around the Crest Haven Complex. The following schools will be participating this year: Cape May County Special Services School District, Crest Memorial School, Wildwood Catholic High School, Lower Township School District and Middle Township Elementary School #2.
Freeholder Thornton said, “Crest Haven has been running this program for over ten years and it is great fun for the residents and our students. Approximately fifty students, teachers and even some parents volunteer to help out with this event.”
Students wheel residents around the one-mile course through the Crest Haven Complex and back to the Nursing Home. A refreshment stand is set up at the half way point and lunch is served following the walk.
Freeholder Thornton added, “Everyone is invited to see this fun inter-generational event that kicks off National Nursing Home Week.”
