New Jersey Walkers Encourage Local Residents to Help Raise Funds to Fight Breast Cancer June 5

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Jennifer Kleuskens, originally from Cape May Court House, NJ, and her team, Birds for Boobs, will be holding a fundraiser at Natali Vineyards on Sunday June 5th to raise money for the 2011 Philadelphia Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk in October. Kleuskens and her team are joining thousands of other dedicated women and men for the Philadelphia Breast Cancer 3-Day, a three day, 60-mile walk benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
This will be Kleuskens’ 6th Walk and the 5th for Team Birds for Boobs. Since its inception, Birds for Boobs has raised over $250,000 for breast cancer research and awareness. The team’s unique name was thought up by Team Captain Jenn Kleuskens in order to show her love for her favorite sports team, the Philadelphia Eagles. Kleuskens said, “It’s definitely catchy and that is what we needed. We want to get people talking about our team.”
Thus far for 2011, Team Birds for Boobs consists of four other locals; Sherry Anne Phillips (Rio Grande, NJ), Shantelle DelConte (Cape May, NJ), Jennifer Hirsch (CMCH, NJ), and Holly Rennie (CMCH, NJ). Each member of the team is required by the 3-Day Walk to raise at least $2,300 in order to participate. “Many walkers raise more than the minimum. In fact, event organizers report the average amount raised is $2,900,” said Kleuskens. “I know with Komen for the Cure as the beneficiary, I’m helping to ensure funding is available for important research and community outreach programs.”

“I first decided to participate in the Breast Cancer 3-Day because my Mom is a breast cancer survivor and I wanted to do something bold to help fight the disease. 2011 is a very special year because we are celebrating my Mom’s fortieth year as a survivor,” said Kleuskens. “I look forward to marching through the streets of Philadelphia again with thousands of others as we raise awareness and funds for the breast cancer movement.”
Taking place in 14 cities nationwide, the Breast Cancer 3-Day is a three-day, 60-mile walk that provides an opportunity to educate tens of thousands of people about breast health, including the importance of early detection. Breast Cancer 3-Day participants commit to raising a minimum of $2,300 and walking an average of 20 miles a day during each three-day event. Proceeds from the Breast Cancer 3-Day are used for breast cancer research, education, and community outreach programs. As the primary beneficiary of the Breast Cancer 3-Day, Susan G. Komen for the Cure receives 85 percent of net proceeds and the remaining 15
percent goes to the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
