Middle Township to Hold Free Rabies Clinic, Sept. 27

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – The township will hold a free rabies clinic Sept. 27 from 2 to 3 p.m. The clinic will be held at the Middle Township Department of Public Works located at 400 West Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House. This clinic presents the last opportunity in 2014 for residents’ dogs or cats to receive free rabies vaccinations.
“I’m happy that we are able to provide this second opportunity of the year for free rabies vaccinations,” Mayor Tim Donohue said. “Combined with our dog census and growing public awareness raised by our Animal Advisory Board, we are well on our way to licensing and vaccinating a record number of dogs in 2014. I want to thank Animal Control Officer Bill Candell, our committed veterinarians and our tireless volunteers for all their hard work. ”
David Hirsch, DVM, of the Middle Township Animal Advisory Board and Parkway Veterinary Hospital says, “Rabies is a fatal disease of both animals and humans, usually transmitted through contact with an infected animal’s saliva. Both dogs and cats are susceptible and vaccinating your pet is the most important way of protecting both your pet and your family. Even indoor cats have been exposed by wildlife entering homes, most commonly bats.”
2014 licenses will be available for Middle Township residents who wish to obtain them. Licenses are $11.20 for dogs who are not neutered or spayed and $8.20 for a neutered or spayed dog. License fees help to defray the costs of animal control and rabies vaccinations.
Please bring your cats in carriers and your dogs on leashes for their safety and comfort.
Several members of the newly formed Middle Township Animal Advisory Board will be volunteering at the rabies clinic. Share your animal related comments, suggestions and concerns with them or by contacting Dawn Stimmel at Middle Township Municipal Hall via dstimmel@middletownship.com or (609) 465-8732.
