Gorillas are cool — everyone stops to look at a gorilla at the zoo…but what if it’s your boyfriend? We’ve all seen this guy, good with the kids, works out…huge arms, small cavs…yet his neck is huge and his head sticks out like a gorilla.
This guy probably has the occasional stiff neck and headaches, which to him is normal. (yes…. I’ve actually had patients tell me about their normal headaches…really) His girlfriend or wife loves him, yet when he turns to the side she notices something that is not normal. She… for a while rationalizes, he looks good, good with the kids, he works out and that’s what all the guys look like. But in the back of her head, she’s thinking about that Gorilla.
Years pass, now the occasional neck stiffness and normal headaches have turned into some weird sensations in the fingers…just occasionally. Oh and when he’s riding his motorcycle… (must be those darn helmets) his hands go numb and a little weak.
Mr. Gorilla has AHS (Anterior Head Syndrome)
You see, because Mr. Gorilla’s head is so far anterior outside what anyone who really understands anatomy would consider to be normal, has caused abnormal pressure on the vertebra, discs, ligaments, muscles and of course nerves… causing his “weird sensations”.
Common Solutions Available Mr. Gorilla has a variety of options to deal with his secondary conditions. OTC’s, muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatory, cortisone shots, PT or Traditional Chiropractic, surgery or pain management.
Mr. Gorilla Meets Man Again Our intention is not to give an opinion on the common solutions, just that you are aware of them, so you or your Gorilla can make an informed choice. The way we work on Gorillas is this:
It’s a three-part solution to first, move the spine back to within the normal range; second) is to have you learn different strategies to improve your condition at home “home work” and third) give you some requirements that will help support the healing process.
Gorillas look good in the wild and at the zoo, not on your man.
