Horizon Blimp Touts The Importance of Mammography Screenings

By Press Release

It can be easy to put off a mammogram, but it’s difficult to ignore the 132-foot airship hovering overhead to remind you that mammograms save lives. During its 13th annual tour of New Jersey, the not-so-stealth mission of the Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey Reach Out Blimp Tour is to raise awareness for breast cancer and ultimately increase the number of women who get screenings.
From June 1 to September 13, the iconic blimp will float over New Jersey’s largest events, most travelled highways and packed beaches adorned with a new pink gondola, fins and nose cone. Horizon BCBSNJ has also donated priceless advertising space on the bottom of the blimp to Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Central and South Jersey to promote their “Reach Out For Life” campaign. With the donation, the Komen affiliate receives unlimited, free exposure throughout the tour.

The “Reach Out For Life” campaign understands that over 1 million New Jersey residents do not have health insurance, and promotes free mammograms for the women who need it most – those who do not otherwise have access to vital health care services. The uninsured population is statistically less likely to be screened for breast cancer and their risk of dying from the disease increases from 20% to 50%.
Blimp fans are invited to join us on Facebook or Twitter to interact with the Blimp team, report sightings, ask blimp-related questions, learn fun facts and participate in weekly trivia.
