Every so often you open a newspaper and you read about some fantastic sounding new idea to treat your pain. There is no one magic bullet that will help everyone; therefore, it pays to have an arsenal of options to help someone with musculoskeletal pain.
Spinal Decompression can be useful as an adjunct, but it’s just one option. It is traction, and traction has been around for decades.
While its use stirs some controversy, we find it advantageous and useful if the end-result is pain reduction. It may be a good adjunct depending upon your particular back pain problem.
If you have a herniated disc which is truly causing you pain, there may be some benefit to traction with regard to pain modulation, but it will not cause the disc material to migrate back into the disc.
While some practitioners make this device the main feature of their treatment, there are other devices that also provide pain relieving benefits, such as the ATM2. We were the first in the area to provide this treatment option for back pain, although it can be useful for the lower extremities, the neck and shoulders as well. Again, this is an adjunctive treatment option.
At Professional Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation, PC (also known as ProPT&Rehab Physical Therapy) we perform Functional Movement Assessments. This comprises a series of movement tests designed to assess fundamental patterns of movement such as bending, twisting, squatting, and a variety of other movements in those with known musculoskeletal pain.
When the clinical assessment is initiated from the perspective of the movement pattern, the physical therapist has the opportunity to identify meaningful impairments that may be seemingly unrelated to the main musculoskeletal complaint, but contribute to the associated disability.
For example, if you come to see us with back pain, we will look at a variety of movements to see how well they are performed.
Some patients have stability problems, which cannot be treated with mobilizations and/or manipulations if you want to correct the actual problem. By taking the time to decipher the nature of the problem, we avoid wasting the patient’s time and we provide the most important treatment for their respective condition.
Not only do we provide quality state of the art equipment, we offer a variety of treatment approaches.
Our patients become part of our extended family. The fun, friendly, social and non-rushed atmosphere lends itself to long lasting friendships and you can always be sure you are cared for to the fullest.
When you can see first-hand the facility and how we provide care, you will realize that it Truly Matters Where You Go For Your Physical Therapy, and you have the right to choose the best place for your rehabilitative care.
