COURT HOUSE — There is still time to get your free flu shot from the County of Cape May. If you were not one of the nearly 2,200 people who received a free flu shot at this year’s drive-through flu clinic, there are four more flu clinic dates.
“Last year’s flu season started early and was fairly severe,” said Health Officer Kevin Thomas. “It is a good reminder that influenza causes a lot of illness and it can be serious. The timing of the flu season is unpredictable, and it is important to get vaccinated before flu activity starts. Because the body’s immunity against flu viruses declines over time, and because flu viruses are constantly changing, it is important to get vaccinated every year.”
The Department of Health posts all of its flu clinics online at www.cmchealth.net or on the flu hotline at 463-6581.
Upcoming County flu clinics are for all ages. Free flu shots and FluMist will be offered:
• Oct. 21 at the Upper Township Health and Wellness Fair from 1-3 p.m. at the Upper Township Community Center, located at 1790 Route 50 in Tuckahoe.
• Oct. 23 at the Health Department from 2-6 p.m., located at 6 Moore Road (building #17) in Cape May Court House. The high-dose vaccine for seniors with eligible insurance and the pneumonia vaccine will also be available at this clinic.
• Oct. 30 at Margaret Mace Elementary school from 2:30-4:30 p.m., located at 1201 Atlantic Avenue in North Wildwood.
• Nov. 6 at the County Library Main Branch from 12-2 p.m., located at 30 West Mechanic St in Cape May Court House.
For all County flu clinics, if you have a severe allergy to eggs, other vaccine component, or if you have been told by a doctor that you have had Guillain-Barré syndrome, you must receive the flu vaccine from your personal physician.
