COURT HOUSE – The Federal Food and Nutrition Services announced the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) allotments have been adjusted for the federal fiscal year. Effective Oct. 1, 2017, the federal government will decrease SNAP benefits. Donna Groome, Cape May County Department of Human Services Department Head, received notification of the reduction in family and individual allocations for the period of October 2017 through September 2018.
Freeholder Jeffrey Pierson, who oversees the Human Services Department stated, “We are disappointed to see a reduction in allocations this year. Across the board this cut will result in a 1% reduction in funding, depending on family size. Cape May County is currently serving at total of 8,161 people, this includes 4,615 adults and 3,546 children who depend on this benefit to feed their families.”
The reduced allocation will range from $2 per month for an individual to $16 per month for a household of eight. Each additional person in the household will have a reduction of $2 per month.
