TRENTON– New Jersey suffered its first N1H1 swine flu death, Health and Senior Services Commissioner Heather Howard confirmed on Monday, June 15, in a afternoon press conference.
The death occurred on Saturday, June 13 at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, Essex County.
The victim was a 49 year-old male who became ill on May 30 and was latter hospitalized on June 2. The unidentified man had several underline medical conditions that contributed to the flu complications and his death, said Howard.
The death “was not unexpected”, said Howard. New Jersey has flu deaths every year that mostly affect the very young and elderly population.
New Jersey currently has 320 confirmed swine flu cases in nineteen counties and 194 suspected cases.
