Doris Palmer Honored as Special Touch Volunteer

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Doris Palmer of Whitesboro, New Jersey, has been named Cape Regional Medical Center’s “Special Touch Volunteer” for the third quarter of 2011. During her weekly assignment, Doris provides diligent service as both a busy Errand Volunteer as well as assisting patients at mealtimes as a “Silver Spoons” Volunteer. Since December, 2003 Doris has contributed over 1,500 hours of priceless volunteer service.
“I enjoy my volunteer service. I especially love feeding and having conversations with the patients,” stated Palmer. “My children didn’t give me a hint this was going to happen today! They really tricked me! I am so honored and shocked!”
Doris has been a member of St. Stephen’s AME Church in Whitesboro since she was nine years old and she sings in three choirs. She loves to cook and bake cakes and pies in addition to crocheting. Doris is an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoys travelling with her children. Volunteering in the healthcare field provides a familiar environment to Doris who is a retired Certified Nurse’s Aide with more than 30 years’ elder care experience. Doris’ nominators hailed her as someone whose attitude, personality, dependability, cheerfulness and performance is exemplary.
On Friday, July 8, Thomas Piratzky, Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing, and Julie Paolella, Director of Volunteer Services, were joined by Doris’s fellow volunteers as they honored her with the presentation of the Volunteer of the Quarter Award. With daughter, Agnes, sons, Gregory, Fred, Darryl, and Clayton, and grandson, Gary by her side, Doris was presented with flowers, a Special Touch Volunteer pin, gift certificate and commemorative plaque.
Congratulations, Doris, and thank you for your very important volunteer service!
