COURT HOUSE – The Garden State Association of Diabetes Educators (GSADE ) has named Cindy Kraemer, BSN, CDE, PRNC, Manager of The Diabetes Center at Cape Regional Medical Center, “Educator of the Year”.
According to GSADE’s established criteria for Educator of the Year, it is imperative to consider an individual who is actively involved in promoting and conducting quality patient education, while displaying identifiable strengths in creativity, flexibility, quality of care, leadership, and a strong commitment to personal growth and professional involvement.
The nomination, submitted by Patti Birchall, RN, BSN, Diabetes Nurse Educator and Kathleen Young, RN, BSN, Diabetes Nurse Educator stated, “Cindy Kraemer is a dedicated educator who exceeds expectations in the care of her patients. The entire Diabetes Education Team at Cape Regional Medical Center has proudly nominated her, respect and admires her as a colleague and friend.”
“I am so honored to be nominated by my colleagues at Cape Regional Medical Center for this prestigious award for the State of New Jersey,” stated Cindy Kraemer. “I look forward to continuing my work with diabetes in Cape May County.”
Ms. Kraemer is a board certified Diabetes Educator, holds an Advanced Pediatric Certification from Johns Hopkins University, and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from De Pauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. Under her leadership, The Diabetes Center at Cape Regional has maintained ADA Recognition since 2008. She has been a member of the Cape Regional Medical Center Team since 1991, and she is also active in the Medical Center’s Parish Nurse Program.
Ms. Kraemer was appointed Clinical Coordinator for Diabetes Service of Cape Regional Medical Center in 2006. Within five years, Cindy has been instrumental in meeting the needs of the diverse diabetic population of Cape May County including the pediatric patients and the family unit. Cindy has received Insulin Pump Certification, offers continuous glucose monitoring training, and has collaborated with public and private OB/Gyn clinics to meet the needs of the gestational diabetic patient. Under her leadership, Cape Regional has maintained an Outpatient Certification. This invaluable program meets the needs of the outpatient diabetic population to decrease the risk of complications through individualized and classroom settings along with community outreach programs and support groups.
The Diabetes Center at Cape Regional Medical Center is also moving forward with the goal to attain the Inpatient Education Certification. Because of Cindy’s continued dedication, Cape Regional has been selected as one of ten facilities in the United States to participate in “A Performance Improvement Approach to Glycemic Control in the Hospital”, sponsored by Annenberg Center for Health Sciences.
