COURT HOUSE – Leaner Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements are forcing some changes at Cape Regional Medical Center.
In response to a reader’s inquiry to the Herald, the following was provided by Tom Piratzky, executive director, Cape Regional Medical Center Foundation:
“Health care reform and changes in reimbursement for Medicare and Medicaid are forcing hospitals throughout the country to confront new challenges and deliver enhanced value to patients and lower the overall cost of care.
“Effective Feb. 11, 2013, our new transcription vendor in the Health Information Management Department became Precyse, a nationally recognized healthcare company.
“At that time, the Medical Center transitioned to Precyse for all transcription services performed in the Health Information Management Department, and all five of our transcriptionists were offered and accepted positions to work for Precyse.
“This is a trend that has been occurring over the last decade throughout the country. Advancements in technology have made this a much more viable financial approach to meeting transcription needs for healthcare providers.”
To the part of the inquiry that regarded nursing staff layoffs, the Medical Center replied, “Cape Regional Medical Center has not had a ‘huge layoff of nursing.’ This past month, Cape Regional Medical Center restructured our nursing management team responsibilities for greater efficiency of our inpatient services.
There was no reduction in nursing staff.”
