Beat the Back to School Rush

August may seem early to start prepping your kids for back to school, but getting a head start on the crowds doesn’t just apply at the mall. Come early September, your local doctor’s office will be jam-packed with students waiting to get vaccines, physicals and yearly wellness exams. CompleteCare Health Network suggests parents make an appointment now for these very important back to school visits.
Before you schedule your appointment, it is a good idea to check in with the school to find out what requirements your child has to meet before starting the new year. At different ages vaccines and general physicals are needed for students from preschool through college.
Keeping up with vaccines is necessary for everyone as instances of certain illnesses, like whooping cough (pertussis) and measles continue to rise in the United States. Staying healthy is possible by making sure your whole family is up to date on their necessary vaccines.
“It is important for all children to have immunizations as recommended to protect themselves, their families and the community from disease and illness,” said CompleteCare Health Network Chief Medical Officer Dr. Cheryl Bettigole. “If you think you or your children are missing certain immunizations your provider can work with you to easily get you back on track.”
Immunization records should be kept in a safe place, so they can be easily accessed for doctor visits and school records.
Early on in the school year it is also a good time to schedule a flu shot. According to the Center for Disease Control, flu shots start to become available in late August and continue through September and October. Getting a shot early is better, as flu season is unpredictable and can start any time in the fall.
While planning your back to school schedule you may want to think about other areas where annual check-ups can help insure your child’s success in school and activities. CompleteCare Health Network offers all of these services and more, making it less daunting to help your kids earn high marks in healthiness this school year.
