Project Medicine Drop will be held on May 26 at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Oceanview, 2721 Rt. 9, Ocean View, in cooperation with the New Jersey State Police. Lt. Doug Pearson, will be collecting unused and expired medications from community members beginning at 10 a.m.
The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs has developed Project Medicine Drop as an important component of its effort to halt the abuse and diversion of prescription drugs. It allows consumers to dispose of unused and expired medications on single-day opportunities at pre-identified, secure locations.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration reports that prescription drugs, including opioids and antidepressants, are responsible for more overdose deaths than “street drugs” such as cocaine, heroin and methamphetamines. The number of American teenagers and adults who abuse prescription drugs is greater than those who use cocaine, hallucinogens and heroin combined, according to the 2009 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, compiled by the U.S. Department of Health and Senior Services.
Autumn Lake Healthcare at Oceanview is proud to support the health and welfare of the community with this important project. For more information, please call Autumn Lake at (609) 624-3881.
