AtlantiCare Presents 27 Mini-Grants to County Schools

COURT HOUSE – AtlantiCare Healthy Schools, Healthy Children (HSHC), a program of AtlantiCare Health Engagement, recently awarded $24,900 in 27 mini-grants to schools in Atlantic, Cape May and Ocean counties. The grants support new and existing school gardens and wellness activities.
AtlantiCare introduced its HSHC Program in 2005. It now partners with 77 schools, from pre-kindergarten through high school. AtlantiCare HSHC awarded the 2011-2012 mini-grants to schools that demonstrated innovative initiatives that would encourage physical activity and healthy eating habits among students and their families as well as staff.
AtlantiCare provided the following grants.
$800 School Wellness Award:
• Atlantic County Special Services Elementary and Middle schools, Mays Landing
• Buena Regional High School, Buena
• Dawes Avenue Elementary School, Somers Point
• Dr. Joyanne Miller School, Egg Harbor Township
• E. H. Slaybaugh Complex, Egg Harbor Township
• Frog Pond Elementary/George Mitchell Elementary schools, Little Egg Harbor
• Oakcrest High School, Hamilton Township
• Port Republic Elementary School, Port Republic

$1500 New School Garden Award:
• Atlantic City High School East Campus, Atlantic City
• Egg Harbor City Community School, Egg Harbor City
• Jordan Road School, Somers Point
• Galloway Township Middle School, Galloway Township
• Mullica Township Elementary and Middle schools, Mullica Township
• Northfield Community School, Northfield
• Upper Township Middle School, Upper Township
• Venice Park School, Atlantic City
• William Davies Middle School, Hamilton Township
$500 Sustained School Garden Award:
• Alder Avenue Middle School, Egg Harbor Township
• Atlantic County Special Services High School, Mays Landing
• Buena Regional Middle School, Buena
• Chelsea Heights School, Atlantic City
• E. C. Attales Middle School, Absecon
• H. Russell Swift Elementary School, Egg Harbor Township
• H. A. Marsh Elementary School, Absecon
• Seaview Avenue Elementary School, Linwood
• South Main Street School, Pleasantville
• Sovereign Avenue School, Atlantic City
