$6000 Raised for Pediatric Cardiology in Sea Isle City

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY – More than 150 runners and walkers turned out for the first annual Michael Fisher Foundation Run/Walk For the Heart in Sea Isle City on Sept. 24, raising more than $6,000 for pediatric cardiology and children with heart defects. Proceeds will be donated to Deborah Hospital Foundation.
Isagenix donated $1,000 to the cause. LaCosta Motel & Lounge sponsored the run/walk, which was organized by Michael’s parents, Justina and Dan Nees, on the first anniversary of his death at age 15. They are making plans for next year’s event.
Numerous local businesses donated prizes and refreshments for the run/walk, which coincided with Sea Isle City’s Irish Fest.
“We definitely want it to be an annual thing, to support children with heart defects so this doesn’t happen to another family,” said Justina LaRosa Nees, a Sea Isle City native and graduate of Ocean City High School.
Michael also left behind his brother Mason, 6, when he died while playing hockey at the Dennis Township Recreation Center in South Dennis.
A sophomore at Cape May County Technical High School in the allied medicine program, Michael was diagnosed at age 4 with a congenital heart defect known as sub aortic stenosis. He received annual tests to monitor the condition, which occurs when a thin membrane starts to form at the bottom of the sub aortic valve.
