Bill (bucktail willie) Shillingford fishing out of Whale Creek Marina had a steady bite of short stripers, fluke up to 23-inches, and bluefish. Berkley gulp shrimp and Excite a Bite paddle tails catching most of the fish.
Whale Creek Marina will host a Fluke Seminar led by Bucktail Willie on June 6 at 9 a.m. Open to the public.
South Jersey Marina is spreading the news that drum are here. The Cape Queen pulled in one weighting 72-pounds, going in on season record board. Slammer and Cape May Lady were pulling in everything from sea bass to drum.
Speaking of sea bass, my family and I went out with Captain Jim McClintock and mate SteveO and brought in 100 keepers on Fins & Grins.
Grassy Sound Marina reports steady fishing off the pier. Bluefish, snapper blues, stripers, tog and flounder caught and released.
Nick Snyder, Dennisville, caught two stripers 30 and 31-inches during incoming tide using mackerel off the pier.
Jaron Harris, Camden, caught 10 blues to 30-inches mostly during outgoing tide using fresh bunker.
Sterling Harbor tells me drumfish are being caught in the Slaughter Beach area on the Delaware side of the Bay with a few fish caught on the Jersey side near Tussey Slough and Pintop.
In the back bays, a few stripers are being caught on clam bait. Anglers are reporting flounder all over in the back bays.
Surf fishing in North Wildwood and at Poverty Beach has been spectacular with stripers up to 50-pounds caught.
Captain Ray says the fly fishing has improved with the best action around the inlet rocks. Chart-white-olive clousers fished on sinking line with a long fairly fast strip worked best. They caught stripers, bluefish and sea herring which provided a lot of fun.
