Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 9. Take your mom fishing.
This past week Captain Ray (Tide Runner, Cape May) was able to catch stripers on both flies and swimming plugs. All the action was around the inlet rocks and beachfront, with everything undersize, but fun.
Captain says it was sinking line and spearing patterns that the bass liked best along with the old faithful chart/white clouser.
Ray has also been working the back bay areas but no signs of any fish or bait yet even though the water looks good and is in the mid 50s to 63 degrees.
Bluefish are showing up, all about 18 inches and thin but they provide a nice fight and are good eating.
Fishing should keep improving as the water continues to warm up.
George and Cathy from Sterling Harbor Bait & Tackle are back and open for business. Their first report of the season says the togging is excellent at the inshore wrecks, jetties and bridges and the striper bite is red hot up the Bay in the Ship John area.
On the kayak fishing scene, Charlie Labar of Philadelphia, checked in with two nice keeper tog caught while fishing on his Hobie Pro Angler around the Cape May Inlet.
Sterling Harbor’s annual Penny Per Yard line sale will run through May 9.
Be sure to get your fishing report to me so I can include your info and photos.
