NEWS: The Women’s Surf Fishing Club of New jersey was organized in 1952 and was the first surf fishing club established for women on the East Coast. It is now the oldest and only women’s surf fishing club in existence today.
The club’s purpose is to promote greater interest and good sportsmanship among fishers as well as to cooperate with the state of New Jersey in the enforcement of laws for the protection and propagation of fish and natural resources.
Officers for 2009 are Chris Pancoast, president; Jennifer Arellano, vice-president; Arlene Perkowsli, secretary and Regina Herz, treasurer.
Members are invited to rig and bucktail tying gatherings held throughout the year. They take great pride in using their own handmade tackle. They also host a family picnic in July and now have their own line of logo clothing.
WSFC is a member of the Association of Surf Angling Clubs and participates in 13-16 ASAC sanctioned tournaments annually. They also have their own tournament in Sea Isle City every fall. The WSFC of NJ will hold its 25th Tournament in October. It is their only fundraiser of the year. Details will be in this column at a later date.
Be sure to read how Andrea Tamburino, WSFC chairwoman for PR and Marketing, became a member of this club. It appears on p. B XX.
