Students featured in the Junior Company are a select group of performers in grades 6–12. Godspell marks the fourth production by the OCTC Jr. Company. Artistic Director, Michael Hartman says, “The Junior Company provides an opportunity for theatre, music and dance students from all around the area to come together under one roof to perfect their craft in a positive, rewarding environment.”
Godspell, a production from Stephen Schwartz who also composed Wicked and Pippin, uses street rhythms, dance and powerful music to bring the stories of the New Testament to life in a fresh, innovative way. A memorable and inspirational score includes “Day By Day” “Turn Back O Man” and “Prepare Ye The Way”.
Created by John-Michael Tebelak as a college project in 1970. It was re-scored by Stephen Schwartz before moving to off-Broadway in 1971 and then to Broadway in 1976 after becoming one of the longest-running off-Broadway musicals. When it ended its run in Sept. 1977 it had played for a total of more than 2,600 performances. The GOCTC production coincides with Godspell’s first NYC Broadway revival scheduled for this fall.
Michael Hartman and Rachel Marlowe serve as the Directors for the production and Marcia Dunlap shares her musical coaching talents with the cast. Ocean City local favorite, Andrew Hink is the orchestra director for the live music featuring in the show.
