ERMA — William “Bill” Fili, Sergeant, USAAF 450th Bomb Group will continue the museum’s free lecture series Wed. July 7, at 7 p.m. The lecture is free to the public and will coincide with the Grand Opening of the fully restored Bader Field (Atlantic City) Air Traffic Control Tower.
The lecture and open-ing of the new exhibit will be held at historic Hangar #1 located at the Cape May Airport.
Fili is a veteran of 34 combat missions in a B-24 Liberator. He was shot down and sent to a POW camp in Bucharest, Romania only to face being bombed by American bombers. Fili will discuss the profound heroism and sacrifices made by individuals to help save fellow soldiers.
The Bader Tower, out of service since the mid 1980’s, played an integral role in aviation history. Originally situated at America’s first municipal airport to serve land and seaplanes (Bader Field/Atlantic City), the tower has been trans-ported to Cape May County, restored and will officially open as the museum’s newest exhibit.
Naval Air Station Wild-wood Aviation Museum is located in Historic Hangar No. 1 at the Cape May Airport, New Jersey. Cape May Airport was formerly Naval Air Station Wild-wood, which served as a World War II dive-bomber training center.
The museum is dedi-cated to the 42 airmen who perished while train-ing at Naval Air Station Wildwood between.
