CAPE MAY- Mike Whipple has resigned as the city’s Director of Marketing, Communications and Event Sales.
Whipple served in the position for 13 months. Whipple’s responsibilities included marketing and event sales for the new Convention Hall in addition to developing a long-term strategic planning, branding and marketing for the City of Cape May.
It marked the first time the city had a marketing director.
According to City Manager Bruce MacLeod. Whipple resigned and left the city “in good standing at his own choice.”
“The city will look to maintain a certain level of staffing for the new Convention Hall and we appreciate the efforts and work and the positive things Mike did for us while he was employed with us but it’s now time to move on,” he said.
Currently, Michael Chait, assistant marketing director for Cape May, is handling the day-to-day duties of the position, said MacLeod. He said the city would add to its staffing next year.

Whipple served on the city’s Convention Hall Project Team in 2010. The team looked a various designs for the new facility.
