WheatonArts to Host New Exhibit in September

MILLVILLE – Visitors to WheatonArts in September will meet and interact with the new Creative Glass Center of America (CGCA) Fellows in the Glass Studio, enjoy free admission during another “Wheaton Wide Open Weekend” (presented through a PNC Arts Alive grant from The PNC Foundation), browse contemporary sculpture in the new Gallery of Fine Craft exhibit and sale, and support WheatonArts’ arts education programs by participating in the 13th Annual WheatonArts Golf Classic.
– The new Creative Glass Center of America Fellows arrive Aug. 27 and will be in residence at WheatonArts through Oct. 8. They are Maria Koshenkova, Copenhagen, Denmark, Jennifer Crescuillo, Silverpoint, TN and Aya Oki, Rochester, NY. The Fellows work alongside the WheatonArts artists in the Glass Studio throughout their residency. – Sept. 7. The opening reception for the new Gallery of Fine Craft exhibit and sale, “ART NJ,” from 2 to 4 p.m. Seventeen of the New Jersey’s contemporary sculpture artists showcase their talents in ceramic, brass, steel, cast bronze, wood, brass wire, cast rubber, and reverse painted glass. Light refreshments will be offered. Free and open to the public.
– Sept. 19, 20 and 21. “Wheaton Wide Open Weekend.” Free admission each day for all visitors. “A Day of Celebration! Lenapowsi: Nanticoke-Lenape Music, Dance and Craft,” September 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This one-day celebration brings together music, dance and visual arts that represent the unique Nanticoke-Lenape cultural heritage. Artists, storytellers, drummers and dancers will provide visitors a vivid introduction to the Lenape traditional arts placing them in the context of the Lenape history and in the present-day life of the Nanticoke Lenape community. Native American craft and food vendors will contribute to the atmosphere of the Lenape circle. In addition, the hands-on family activity, Paper Animal Heads, will be offered each day from 1 to 3 p.m.
– September 23. WheatonArts Golf Classic at Scotland Run Golf Club in Williamstown, NJ. Funds raised support WheatonArts’ arts education programs. Registration fees for all golfers include: green fees; golf cart; bag drop; lunch and dinner; entry into Door Prize drawing; and golfer gift bag with a handmade WheatonArts glass piece. Sponsorship above $2,500 will receive a complimentary foursome. Registrants also receive two, on-course drink vouchers and handmade glass trophies for the top three teams. – Sept. 26. Studio Wide Open with the CGCA Fellows. 6:30 p.m. in the Glass Studio. The program is free and open to the public. This is an opportunity to meet the current Fellows and see the expertise that is part of the creative process. The artists present an evening of glassmaking and then offer a behind-the-scenes tour of their studios. Light refreshments are available. Current WheatonArts exhibits and programs:
– In the Museum of American Glass. “NJ350: Through the Lens of Glass” and “Durand: Made in New Jersey. “Object Conversations” is a participatory component of the “NJ 350: Through the Lens of Glass” exhibition. Daily tours offered at 2:30 p.m. each day (included in the price of admission).
– Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. in the Glass Studio. Special demonstration focusing on traditional South Jersey techniques. (These demonstrations continue through December 2014 except during special events.)
The visitor experience at WheatonArts includes the Museum of American Glass, artist demonstrations in the Glass Studio at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.; artist demonstrations in the Ceramic and Flameworking Studios; and shopping in the museum stores. Children activities: Letterboxing; Outdoor Chalk Board; Creation Stations; Sidewalk Chalk; Outdoor and Oversized Games; and “Ollie the Oyster” Treasure Hunt in the Museum of American Glass.
WheatonArts is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open Labor Day, September 1. Admission: Adults $10.00, $9.00 Senior Adults and $7.00 Students. Children five and under are free. Free to shop and stroll except during outdoor special events. The Sweets Suite Bake Shoppe Café is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
