WheatonArts Hosts ‘A Garden Of Quilts’ Quilt Show

By Sponsored Content

MILLVILLE — Presented by The Garden Patch Quilters, National Quilting Association (NQA) Chapter 541, the biennial “A Garden of Quilts” Quilt Show, March 16 and 17, showcases over 150 traditional and contemporary quilts in the WheatonArts Event Center.
Why do we have our show judged? It establishes recognition for quality work; it sets standards and goals for all to strive for; and it provides quilters with an evaluation of their work. Quilts, quilted items and garments are judged on visual impact, color, design, quilting, workmanship and finishing of the piece. Anyone may enter a quilt either to be judged or for display only. All sizes and techniques are welcome. Children up to sixteen years of age are encouraged to enter quilts in the Junior Division. This exhibit showcases the creativity and clever workmanship of a talented future generation of quilters.
The show entries are being judged by Elizabeth Pauley. Pauley, who began quilting in 1974, is a quilting teacher and a NQA certified judge. For many years she taught quilting at The Patch of Country in Chadds Ford, PA, and public school at Springton Lake Middle School in Media, PA. She currently lives in Chesapeake, MD.
Visitors to the show will discover a host of quilt displays, several specialty fabric and supplies merchants, hourly demonstrations of quilting and embellishing techniques, a wide selection of boutique items plus a variety of unique special exhibits.
New and old quilts, both traditional and non-traditional, and quilted garments will be appraised by Karen Dever, AQA Certified Appraiser and member of the Professional Association of Appraisers – Quilted Textiles (PAAQT). Appraisals will be in the Event Center each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fee: $45.00 written appraisal and $25.00 oral appraisal.
The 2014 raffle quilt, “Purple Sampler,” is queen-sized and is hand appliquéd and pieced by Guild members. Raffle tickets will be on sale for $1.00 each in the Event Center. The winning ticket will be drawn March 17, during the show.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission is $5.00 per person. Visitors can also visit the Museum of American Glass and museum stores. Food and refreshments are available for purchase in the Event Center. Free parking.
