What’s Happening in Ocean City in September

OCEAN CITY — The city released its lineup of events for September. Planned events are:
Sept. 2: Last Family Night of the Season starting 7:30 p.m. on the Boardwalk. Free entertainment includes Stilt Walker Woody Duncan strolling the Boards, Magician Ricky Vale at 8th St., Shore Thing Band, 8th St., Karaoke Faz at 9th St., 1-2-3 Draw Band at 10th St., Jilly’s DJ Party, 10th to 11th St., Photos with Santa on vacation 11th St., Big Daddy Band at 13th St.
Sept. 3: The Labor Day Weekend begins with the annual King and Queen of Plop contest on Fri., Sept.3 starting 11 a.m. on the 9th St. Beach adjacent to the Music Pier. This is Ocean City’s way of welcoming the fall season, a contest that encourages folks to demonstrate dramatic falls or plops on the beach.
Registration begins 10:30 a.m. at the beach. Prizes will be awarded. Entry is free. Call 609-525-9300.
September 4 begins a series of Farmer’s Markets that will be held every Saturday in September and October. Fresh produce from area farms will be available at City Hall Annex Parking Lot, 901 Asbury Ave., from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For information, call

Sept. 5: The American Legion Post Morvay-Miley 524 of Ocean City holds a Pancake Breakfast from 8 a.m. until noon at the Masonic Hall, 10th and Wesley Ave. All are welcome. Includes pancakes, sausage, coffee, tea, milk, juice: Adults $5, Children $3.
Sept.5: C.S. Lewis Drama: David Payne of London England will portray the famous British author, C.S. Lewis 7 p.m., Sun., Sept. 5 at the Tabernacle, 5th and Wesley Ave. This is yet another of the Tabernacle’s fine free events.
Sept. 5, 7,8 Anything Goes, the final Broadway production of the season of the Ocean City Pops and Ocean City Theatre Co. is set for Sept. 5, 7, 8 at the Music Pier starting 7:30 p.m. This will be a great evening of fun in fully staged performances of Cole Porter’s hit songs. Sept 10-12: The Annual Street Rod Weekend features over 250 colorful, modified cars displayed at the Sports and Civic Center, 6th St. off Boardwalk and on the Boardwalk, Sat.,. Sept. 11 from noon to 4 p.m. The weekend also includes a craft show on the Music Pier on Sat. and a fashion show by Gabrielle’s on Sat., at 1:30 p.m. inside the Music Pier Auditorium.
Sept. 11: The Fabulous Grease Band performs in the Music Pier Auditorium at 8 p.m. with hits from the 50’s through the 90’s. Tickets are $20 at the Music Pier Box Office, 609-525-9248 or on line at www.ocnj.us.
The September 11th Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park, 6th and Wesley Ave. starting 11 a.m. honors the victims of the tragedy.
Sept. 11:The Humane Society of Ocean City presents its Funday at Playland’s Castaway Cove on the Boardwalk from 1 to 5 p.m. Enjoy all rides for $10. Proceeds benefit the Society, a no-kill shelter named one of the best for its size in the country.
Sept. 12: The Ocean City Pops features the GAMP Concert Choir with tenor Justin Gonzalez. Talented pianist, Yang Boa, plays Beethoven with the Pops at the Music Pier,

Sept 18-19:The Ocean City Air Festival Weekend features a ground display of unusual and vintage planes, a model airplane flight exhibit, parachute drop and more on Sat. Sept.18 at the Airport, 26th and Bay from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Meet the performers who will be flying in the exciting Aerobatic Air Show on Sun., Sept. 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. from 6th to 14th Sts. over the ocean and boardwalk. Sept. 18-19:The Boardwalk Family Fun Fest will be held featuring a juried craft show, Face Painters, Pony Rides at 11th St. Fest hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sept.19: The Ocean City Pops presents Chris Brubeck’s Triple Play with the Pops at the Hughes Performing Arts Center, 6th and Atlantic Ave., 7:30 p.m., Sept.19. featuring music ranging from jazz to folk from blues to classics. Sept. 25: Over 7,000 bikers will visit Ocean City on Sept. 25 for the annual MS Bike-A-Thon that raises over $3 million to support the work of the Delaware Valley Multiple Sclerosis Society. Call 609-525-9300 for information.
Sept., 26, Ocean City hosts the Annual Boardwalk Corvette Show featuring over 350 cars with every model ever manufactured. One of the largest shows of its kind on the East Coast. Cars will be displayed on Boardwalk from 6th to 10th Sts. from 11:30 a.m. to

Oct. 2: Operation First Response presents its Walk For the Wounded beginning at the Music Pier, with registration at 10 a.m. and 3 mile walk at 11:30 a.m. The walk draws attention to the plight of returning soldiers and raises funds to help meet the needs of their families.
