The Jay Eggly Train Show, one of the most popular of our Holiday events, is set for Dec. 4-5 at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The show is named after the late Jay Eggly, an Ocean City business man, who suggested that we start the exhibit.
Train shows, Christmas and kids just naturally go together, and many adults have a warm spot in their hearts for the colorful, miniature models.
The Ocean City Train Show and Sale features large working displays plus vendors that sell model trains, parts and accessories.
A 10×20 ft. display will be exhibited by the South Jersey S Gaugers in the Solarium of the Music Pier with four to five models operating simultaneously. Loading platforms and saw mills will be part of the layout.
The stage of the Music Pier will highlight a working exhibit of Gauge 1 railway trains by the South Jersey Garden Railroad Society. The exhibit is a favorite of children who like to sit on the stage and watch large models circle through foliage and forest settings.
Dick Yard, an expert technician, will provide on the spot repair service.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sat., Dec.4 and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sun., Dec.5. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children. Proceeds benefit Ocean City special events. Ocean City’s Annual Christmas Parade will be held on Sat., Dec. 4 starting
10:30 a.m. Route is from 6th to 11th Sts. on Asbury Ave.
Santa will arrive in town on a horse and buggy. The Parade features, floats, costumed characters, the Ocean City High School Band, the Pitman Hobo Band and a string band. Santa will greet youngsters in Stainton Square, 8th and Asbury Ave. and distribute treats.
The Ocean City Pops Orchestra presents Joy To The World, a symphonic and choral celebration of the glorious sounds of Christmas 7:30 p.m., Dec. 4 at the Hughes Performing Arts Center, Sixth and Atlantic Ave.
The Orchestra will be conducted by William Scheible. Featured in the program are the Cape Shore Chorale, directed by Jay Scott Breiner, baritone, Dominic Inferrera and soprano Colleen Daley Eberhardt. Musicologist Richard Stanislaw will emcee.
The program will include an array of holiday classics ranging from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer to beloved carols and the Hallelujah Chorus from The Messiah. Tickets are $15, available at City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave., 609-525-9300, on line at www.ocnj.us/boxoffice or at the door.
Sindia Day an event that celebrates the City’s fabled 1901 Shipwreck, is set for Sat., Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. at the Ocean City Historical Museum, 17th and Simpson Ave.
There will be a special tour featuring relics saved from the Clipper Ship, photographs, plus relics from the Museum’s archives not usually on display. Children will have the opportunity to take part in an art making activity. Call 399-1801.
The Ocean City Arts Center Craft Show is also scheduled from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. at the 17th and Simpson Ave. Complex on Saturday. The work of local artists will be for sale including paintings, scarves, jewelry, photographs, books, specialized artistic note cards, pottery and holiday décor. Local piano students will perform. Also on Dec. 4-5, there will be free horse and buggy rides starting at City Hall from noon to 3 p.m., photos with Santa in a lifeboat at the Music Pier from noon to 3 p.m. and free train rides for children at City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave. starting 11 a.m.
There will be Breakfast with Santa at Yianni’s, 841 Asbury Ave. from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Dec. 4 and Breakfast with Santa at Arlene’s on Asbury Café on Dec. 5 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
With Love To Our Children is the December Gallery Exhibit at the Ocean City Arts Center. The exhibit features work from eight local intermediate and elementary schools in the area. The work will be on display December 1-18. Hours are 9 a.m. to
9 p.m., Mon.-Fri. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat.
Many of the pieces will be auctioned at a reception to benefit the schools and the Arts Center on Fri. Dec. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Holiday Music: The Ocean City Theatre Company’s holiday spectacular of song and dance, a Christmas Wonderland will be held Dec. 17-18 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. in the Music Pier. Musical Mondays, a cabaret series by the Ocean City Repertory Theater, is now underway at the Black Box Theater, 813 Asbury Ave. through Dec. 20. New Toy Donations are now being accepted by the Waves of Caring Holiday Toy Drive that provides new toys and gifts to children of local families in need. Unwrapped new toys for infants through age 13 may be dropped off through Dec.11 at the following locations:
