OCEAN CITY – What’s happening in Ocean City? Well, there are a couple of things…
Nov. 5: The 16th Trail of Two Cities Run/Walk between Ocean City and Somers Point will “break new ground” this year.
The race will be over the new causeway now being completed between the two Cities. Participants will be able to bid farewell to the old bridges now being demolished.
The event begins 8 a.m., Nov. 5 at the Ocean City Transportation Center, 10th and Haven Ave. and concludes at JFK Park in Somers Point. The Causeway will be closed to vehicles from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Runners will compete in various age groups from 9 years to 70 plus, male and female. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group. There will be special awards to the male and female with the best over-all times.
Walkers will participate for the opportunity to take in the sights, snap photos, enjoy a relaxed workout and be among the first to navigate the new Causeway by foot. No pets, skate boards, bikes or roller blades will be allowed because of insurance restrictions.
Pre-registration is $20 if received by Oct. 28 and $25 the day of the race. No mail-ins will be accepted after Oct. 28. Immediate families of up to four may register for a discounted price of $60. Separate registration forms are required for each family participant. Families must pre-register and all forms must be mailed together.
Same day registration starts 7 a.m. at the Ocean City Transportation Center, 10th and Haven Ave. Packet pick-up and late entry will also be conducted at the Transportation Center. Buses will be available at the finish line at JFK Park in Somers Point to transport runners to the start before the race from 7 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Buses will also transport runners back to Ocean City at the conclusion of the race.
The finish and awards ceremony will be held at JFK Park after all participants have completed the course. Shirts are guaranteed to first 300 pre-registrants or while supplies last. Refreshments will be available at the conclusion of the event.

Oct. 13: Natives Night returns to the Ocean City Historical Museum, 17th and Simpson Ave. at 7 p.m. Enjoy an evening of Ocean City folks talking about the nostalgic past of this great family community and resort. Host will be Paul Anselm, who has plenty of information of his own to pass along. There is also a quilt show at the Museum this month. Admission is free.
Oct. 15: The Junior Miss Ocean City Pageant is set for 7 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Tickets are $10, available at the door or call 609-525-9317. The Pageant is for girls 12 to 15 and is produced by the Ocean City Recreation Division. Reigning Junior Miss Ocean City, Emily Aita, will preside over the event and crown her successor. Emily has been an outstanding Junior Miss representing the City at many events.
Oct. 22: A Halloween dog costume contest sponsored by the Ocean City PTA will be held 10 a.m. at the 5th and Boardwalk Parking Lot next to the Sports and Civic Center. For information, call (609) 517-5049.
Oct. 22-23: The Shirt Shack free hayrides on the Boardwalk noon till 4 p.m. Passengers may get on and off at 6th and 12th Streets. There will also be free pumpkins, trick or treating, face painting. For information, call 609-525-9300.
Oct. 23: The Hero Campaign for designated drivers will sponsor its first annual John R. Elliott Hero Walk and Sponsor Expo to raise awareness of the important role of Designated Drivers in helping to prevent drunken driving tragedies. It will also raise funds to support the Campaign’s Educational and Promotional Programs. Oct. 26: The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce presents Welcome Night for all Ocean City residents at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, from 6 to 8 p.m. This free event acquaints resident and newcomers with services and organizations in the community. It is an informative-fun night with free refreshments and giveaways. Call (609) 399-1412.
Oct. 27: The City’s Annual Halloween Parade is set for 7:15 p.m. from 6-11th Sts. on Asbury Ave. For information, call 1-800-813-5580 or access www.ochp.blogspot.com.
Oct. 28: The Community Arts Project will hold its 5th Annual Costume Party, “Lost at Sea,” from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Flanders Hotel, 11th and Boardwalk. This is a Shipwrecked Ghost Ship themed party offering an amusing way to celebrate Halloween with friends. And who knows, maybe Emily, the Flanders celebrated ghost will show up!

Oct. 29: The Downtown Merchants will hold Trick or Treat from 2 to 4 p.m. from 6th to 11th Sts on Asbury Ave. For more information call, 609-525-9300.
Oct. 30: The long awaited announcement of the Dog of the Year Contest winner sponsored by the Ocean City Dog Park is set for noon on the sun deck of the Port O’ Call, 15th and Boardwalk. The Dog of the Year announcement will be followed by the “Howling for Hounds” Best Dressed Contest at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Last year’s entrants dressed as lifeguards, a ballerina, a pumpkin and get ups that defied description. You had to be there.
All are welcome to attend the event and bring their best friends. Committee members will be selling calendars with photos of all dog of the year entrants, T shirts similarly illustrated and there will be a silent auction.

Volunteers are needed for a weekend of Environmental Events sponsored by the Ocean City Environmental Commission and the New Jersey Clean Communities Program.
On Sat., Oct. 15 from 10:30 a.m. till noon there will be a Bay Clean Up at the Tennessee Ave. Boat Ramp. Residents, visitors and groups are asked to bring their kayaks, boats and canoes. Volunteers will be provided work gloves, bags, life vests and other supplies.
On Sun., Oct. 16 from noon till 2 p.m. volunteers are needed to assist in Dune Grass Planting. Volunteers should meet at the 58th Street Beach Parking area and wear appropriate clothing. For more information, call (609) 399-6111 ext. 9285.
