Looking Ahead To May:
(May 2) Martin Z. Mollusk Day: Relatively Famous Hermit Crab creeps out on to the 9th St. Beach and attempts to see his shadow. If he is successful, summer comes one week early. If not, no big deal, it comes on time. Spectators sing “Some Enchanted Morning” to encourage MZM as his colorful entourage arrives at the beach led by Shelley the Mermaid, The fantastic Ocean City Fish, the World’s Only Wind Chimes Band, Trash Buster, the Canned Crusader and Dr. Frankenstein, who checks Martin’s blood pressure to make sure he is healthy enough to attempt the arduous sighting. If Big Mama Llama shakes her head, Martin has successfully seen his shadow. Location may change if dredging is taking place on 9th St. that day.
(May 4) The Ocean City Mile Long Spring Block Party, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from 5th to 14th Sts. on Asbury Ave. Over 350 crafters, food vendors, entertainment, and more. Public service booths will be located on 9th between Central and West Avenues. Event is dedicated to the memory of Carolyn Murphy who directed the event for many years.
(May 18-19) Four at the Shore Treasure Hunt: Join the North East’s largest Treasure Hunting club at the Ocean City Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, to compete in a series of metal detector hunts for great prizes. A great family activity. Special children’s hunt on Saturday. No experience needed. Loner detectors available for children.
