WILDWOOD CREST – Join us each Wednesday morning at 10 am during August for a series of free, fun and family-friendly guided walks at the Two Mile Beach Unit of Cape May National Wildlife Refuge, located at 12001 Pacific Ave (Ocean Dr.), in Wildwood Crest. Our first walk Aug. 6 will introduce you to two of the most fascinating creatures to be found on our NJ beaches: Ghost Crabs and Mole Crabs.
Ever wonder… what shorebirds feed their young? Why those little birds run around at the edge of the surf? Who keeps the beach clean? Who lives in those tidy holes on the beach and dunes? Find out by participating in a Ghost and Mole Crab program Aug. 6, from 10-11:30 a.m. The program will start with a lecture and slide show in the Visitor Contact Station, then move to the beach, where’s we’ll try to discover more about some of the mysterious little critters who live there.
This special program will be led by Dr. Ralph E.J. Boerner, Professor Emeritus of Ecology (Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology, Ohio State University). Meet in the Visitor Contact Station, 12001 Pacific Ave (Ocean Drive) in Wildwood Crest. Dress for the weather; heavy rain cancels the event. Free loaner binoculars are available. You are encouraged to bring bug spray, sunscreen and water.
