By Press Release

COURT HOUSE — If you’re too young to buy don’t even try that’s the slogan of the “We Check For 21” program which officially starts tomorrow (Thur., June 24). Due to the popularity of the training program, the event takes place this year at the Wildwoods Convention Center located at 4501 Boardwalk in Wildwood.
Two training sessions on fraudulent identification documents such as New Jersey and out of state licenses and international passports will be held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for employees of liquor license establishments in Cape May County.
Presentations will be made by the NJ Motor Vehicle Division and the Division of Alcohol Beverage Control, among others. Each session will run approximately an hour and a half.
This is the 18th anniversary of the program that originated in Cape May County and has since been implemented statewide. The initiative started in 1993 with 40 businesses and today has more than 100 businesses participating in the program.
The “We Check for 21” program is a unique collaborative effort bringing together the public and private sectors of the county in the fight against underage drinking. The program has been successful in raising awareness that underage drinking is not tolerated in Cape May County.
The Program is sponsored by the Cape May County Municipal Alliances in cooperation with the County Freeholders, CMC Licensed Beverage Association, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office and the CMC Chiefs of Police Association and is funded by a NJ Division of Addiction Services grant received by Cape Assist and the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse.
