Waltz your way into Cape May’s Vintage Dance Weekend

By On Deck Staff

Kick up your heels as they did in Cape May more than a century ago and revive the dances of the Victorian era and ragtime during the two-day Vintage Dance Weekend, Saturday and Sunday, April 25 and 26.
The Vintage Dance Weekend is part of Cape May’s Spring Festival co-sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) and the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Cape May.
Vintage dance instructors, Al and Jan Seabra, will teach you the traditional dances of the 19th century at a Vintage Dance Workshop, Saturday, April 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (time includes lunch and breaks) at the historic Chalfonte Hotel, 301 Howard St.
At 8 p.m. that evening at the Chalfonte Hotel, put your newfound expertise to good use during the costumed Vintage Ball with live music of the period by Spare Parts.
On Sunday, April 26 at 1 p.m. the Vintage Dance Weekend concludes with an elegant Tea Dance at the Chalfonte Hotel. Spare Parts will provide music and light refreshments will be served.
Victorian dress is encouraged at each event, but not required. Gender balance will be observed throughout the Vintage Dance Weekend. An all-inclusive package (three workshops, Vintage Ball and Tea Dance) is $75. Purchased separately, the three workshops cost $45; the Vintage Ball is $30 and the Tea Dance is $20.
Call 609-884-5404 or 800-275-4278, or visit MAC’s website at capemaymac.org. For information about restaurants, accommodations and shopping, call the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Cape May at 609-884-5508.
