Enjoy the lush grape vines, the peaceful setting, the solitude of fifty acres where the soil, the sea, and the farm exert their charms on a lovely summer evening. Area music lovers will be introduced to a delightful evening of classical music featuring the gifted Voxare String Quartet, who have been making their mark on the New York Classical music scene since their formation at Juilliard. They have performed at the Guggenheim Museum, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Bargemusic series, with the New York Philharmonic, and appear on WQXR classical radio in NY. They will begin their initial performance in our area at the lush vineyard of Willow Creek Winery, at 168 Stevens St., West Cape May. (You can access it from 4th Ave., in West Cape May , which becomes Steven St., or take Sunset Blvd. to Stevens St.) Or you can go online, to Willow Creek Winery, W. Cape May, N.J. which provides directions to their farm and vineyard.
According to Concertonet, July 2009) “The Voxare Quartet is half Russian, half Chicagoan, 100 percent Juilliardian and 400 percent young, enthusiastic, blessed with individual great instrumental skills….What Voxare produced here was a thoughtful honest performance. They shaped each phrase for optimal effect…The outer dance movement and the scherzo were both taken with poise and feeling (with some wonderfully fresh playing by first violinist Emily Ondracek). They played the Lento with some lilting good grace, and were very careful in the finale metrical markings….Their two years together shows great potential.”
And their two years together have grown to six years, to amazing accolades.
The New York Times said: “The personable and passionate Voxare players…offered a spirited, high-energy performance, vividly conveying the work’s beautiful colors. The performance was excellent, with distinctive contributions from each player.” (2010).
They will perform works by J.S. Bach, Mohammed Fairouz, and Felix Mendelssohn.
Not only will you be introduced to a lovely winery, but the concert price includes a glass of their wine, grapes grown on site, as part of the admission cost. We will have a half hour intermission during which you can relax and enjoy your wine. Tickets are $30. Adults, $$25. Seniors and include the wine during intermission. They will perform Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, BWV 1043 (bet. 1717 ad 1723) by J.S. Bach, The Named Angels (2012) by Mohammed Fairouz, and String Quartet no. 2 in A minor, Op. 13 (1827) neatly scanning a few centuries.
The Voxare String Quartet are acclaimed by many modern composers, and work, often, with David David Del Tredici, and Ned Rorem. Pulitzer Prize winning composer, Ned Rorem, said: “The Voxare String Quartet is probably the best American chamber group performing today.” Voxare was accepted to study quartet repertoire with Robert Mann, founder of the Juilliard String Quartet, at the inaugural prestigious Mann Quartet Institute. Voxare can be found on the soundtracks of several films shown at festivals such as Sundance and Tribeca. They studied with members of the Kronos Quartet through Carnegie Hall.
