COURT HOUSE – The Cape May County Library will be hosting these various events in Dec., 2011.
UPDATED: The County Library will host a preschool dance party, a family movie night, a tween game afternoon and Sugarplum Storytimes. For full information, see below.
Main Library Branch:
Cape May County Library Hosts Holiday Celebration:
The public is invited to the Annual Holiday Celebration at the Main Library on Fri., Dec. 2, the night of Christmas in Court House. The Main Library is located at 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
List of events:
• 12 – 7:30 p.m. – Bake sale to benefit the Cape May County Animal Shelter
• 5:30 p.m. – Library’s Bookmobile is in the Annual Christmas Parade
• 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Craft time for adults & children
• 6:30 p.m. – Puppet/Story time performed by Miss Fran
Additionally, there will be an audience participation reading of “The Night Before Christmas” plus Children’s Librarian Adrienne Gass on guitar will lead everyone in caroling throughout the night.
Light refreshments will be served.
Cape May County Library Hosts Holiday Cooking Demo:
The Cape May County Library invites the public to “Hassle Free Holiday Food” presented by Chef John Webersinn in December. This program will take place at 1 p.m. on Tues., Dec. 6 at the Main Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
“Hassle Free Holiday Food” will offer time saving tips to help take the stress out of the holidays plus flavoring tips to wow family, friends and guests. Foods such as Christmas fruit tarts, lemon curd, Brie with onion-cranberry chutney and Endive boats will be sampled.
As the owner of Time to Dine Personal Chef Services, Chef John provides fresh on-site prepared meals for any occasion and groups from 2 to 200. An honors graduate of the Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College, Chef John’s extensive and eclectic culinary skills are a result of his work experiences in diners, country clubs, casinos and gourmet restaurants.
This program is free, however, space is limited; therefore registration is required.
County Library Hosts Preschool Dance Party:
The Cape May County Library invites children ages 2 to 5 and their caregivers to a “Preschool Dance Party” on Fri., Dec. 9 at 11:30 a.m. The program will take place at the Main library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
Children are invited to show off their amazing dance moves! The librarians will be playing some of the hippest tunes for the kids and teaching some awesome dance moves.

County Library Hosts Family Movie Night:
The Cape May County Library invites children ages 6 to 12 and their families to Family Movie Night on Fri., Dec. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. The program will take place at the Main Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
“Smurfs,” rated PG, will be shown on a big screen with surround sound. When the evil wizard, Gargamel, chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into our world; in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

County Library Hosts Cooking Demonstration on Regional Christmas Dishes:
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Cape Cuisine: Christmas from Around the World” presented by Chef Mark Kalla at 1 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 10. The program will take place at the Main Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
Chef Kalla will demonstrate techniques and aspects of Christmas foods and recipes including regional specialties from around the world. Participants will be invited to sample the foods that have been prepared.
Chef Kalla is the head chef at Green Cuisine Restaurant in Stone Harbor and also runs the Avalon Elementary School cafeteria and teaches culinary instruction to children during the summer.
This program is free, however, space is limited; therefore registration is required.
Cape May County Library Hosts Lecture on Waterfowl:
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Wonderful Waterfowl” presented by Don Freiday at 7 p.m. on Wed., Dec. 14. The program will take place at the Main Branch Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
By Dec., throngs of migratory waterfowl have arrived in southern New Jersey, many to spend the winter. Where do they come from? How do you identify them? Where are the best places to look for them? Learn the answers to these and other questions and see stunning images of many of the ducks, geese and swans found in our area during this program with Cape May naturalist Don Freiday.
Freiday is a graduate of Rutgers University and is currently the regional coordinator for the New Jersey Breeding Bird Atlas. Also, he is the co-author of two books: “A Precious Place, a Naturalist Explores New Jersey” and “Wild Journeys: Migration in New Jersey.
County Library Hosts Tween Game Afternoon:
The Cape May County Library invites children ages 8 to 12 to “Get Your Game On at the Library,” at 2:30 p.m. on Mon., Dec. 19. The program will take place at the Main Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House.
Kids are invited to play video games on Wii, XBOX360 and PS3. Various board games and card games will also be available.

Lower Cape Branch:
Cape May County Library Hosts Garden Lecture on Natural Decorations:
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Decorating with Nature” presented by Joe Alvarez on Mon., Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. The program will be held at the Lower Branch Library located at 2600 Bayshore Road, Villas.
Native gardening has enjoyed an increase in popularity recently, but natural decorations have been a tradition for many years. Bring some of your favorite dried or fresh cut plants and start a new tradition with your family this holiday season. Come join us and discover the joy of decorating with nature and create a work of holiday art.
Joseph Alvarez has a Bachelor of Science Degree, is a Board Member of the Cape May National Wildlife Refuge and is a Certified Rutgers Master Gardner.
Cape May County Library Offers Monthly Art Instruction:
The Cape May County Library is offering monthly art lessons starting in Dec. The public is invited to attend an open artist workshop instructed by Cheryl Crews on the second Tues. of every month beginning Dec. 13 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lower Branch Library located at 2600 Bayshore Road, Villas.
These workshops offer the opportunity to develop a work in progress with individual art instruction offered as guidance. All art media is welcome.
Leading these workshops will be Cheryl Crews, a dedicated local artist, teacher and activist. Crews is a familiar dynamic force with regional museums, art centers and institutions, as well as being known for her public murals. Currently, Crews is on the faculty of Atlantic/Cape Community College, lead teacher of Lower Township’s Youth Art Program through the Center for Community Arts, founding president of the Aquarian Project and writer illustrator for “Sketches of Down Jersey” for the Down Jersey Magazine.

County Library Hosts Sugarplum Storytimes:
The Cape May County Library invites children ages 2 to 6 and their caregivers to Sugarplum Storytimes in Dec. The programs will take place at various library branches.
Come to the library to celebrate the season with a pajama storytime! Participants will read holiday stories, sing songs and decorate a cookie. Don’t forget to wear your PJs!
