County Library Hosts Planning, Preparing and Pruning Your Garden
The Cape May County Library invites public to attend “Planning, Prepping, and Pruning” presented by Joe Alvarez. The program will take place at 6:00 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Cape May Court House Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
With the grey of winter giving way to longer sunnier days and tell tale signs of catalogs and flower shows before you know it, spring will be here. This is the time to get a jump on this year’s gardening season. Planning, preparing and pruning are among the first steps to improving last year’s performance in your gardens. Come learn some fundamental principles of gardening, including soil amendments, disease and pest management along with basic pruning techniques necessary for a successful year for the landscape and gardens.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Borrowing e-books with OverDrive and OneClick Digital” given by the Technology Learning Center at 10 am Feb. 24. The program will take place at the Main Branch of the Library located at 30 Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
OverDrive and its app Media Console will get you reading ebooks at home and on the go! Learn how to navigate this multi-faceted tool which offers over one million titles, including audio books. County Library Hosts Cape Counseling Seminar
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join “Stress Reduction Techniques” presented by Margaret Linn of Cape Counseling at 6:00 p.m. Feb. 26. The program will take place at the Cape May Court House Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
Participants will learn how to develop and utilize techniques of visual imagery while using five sensory organs (eyes, nose, ears, tongue, and skin). They will also learn the techniques of deep breathing and how shallow breathing limits oxygen intake and adds further stress to the body, thus creating a vicious cycle. Participants will learn how to clear the mind of extraneous thought, and gain control of their emotions. The benefits of setting aside time in their daily routine for meditation will also be taught. Come join us to learn these informative facts to help reduce the stress plaguing your everyday life.

County Library Offers Program on “Hotmail 101”
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Hotmail 101” given by the Technology Learning Center at 6 p.m. Feb. 26. The program will take place at the Main Branch of the Library located at 30 Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
Hotmail is one of the first web-based email services, started in 1996. It has expanded its offerings to bring you document and data storage, online Office web Apps and more. Please come to the class with your Hotmail user name and password. If you need help setting up your account, please call the TLC to set one up in advance of the class.

County Library Hosts Birding Lecture
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Backyard Birds” presented by Pat Sutton at 6:00 p.m. March 3. The program will take place at the Cape May Court House Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
Pat Sutton will share accounts of the many visitors that have been attracted to the South Jersey landscape that she and her husband have nurtured for over thirty years. They have tallied 212 species of birds and 78 species of butterflies in their tiny one-half-acre wildlife oasis. Each season brings new entertainment. Sutton will share many “Backyard Habitat for Wildlife TIPS.” Indeed, learn how to create a backyard habitat and question each practice as to whether or not it will help or harm wildlife, and birds and other wildlife will come and benefit.

Learn How to Play Bridge at County Library
The Cape May County Library invites the public to “Learn How to Play Bridge” instructed by Ron Burczewski. This six-week course will begin March 3 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sea Isle City Branch Library located at 4800 Central Avenue in Sea Isle City.
Learn to play the exciting and fascinating game of Contract Bridge which combines skill, chance, social interaction, adventure and mental fitness. The course will focus on the Standard American bridge system and cover all aspects of bidding, scoring, card playing, popular conventions and bridge etiquette, appropriate for all new and beginning players.
Burczewski, a resident of Sea Isle City, is a member of the American Contract Bridge League and has enjoyed playing and teaching Bridge for 40 years.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend the four-week workshop “Home Organization 101” presented by Nancy Underwood at 5:30 p.m. beginning March 5. The program will take place at the Sea Isle City Branch Library located at 4800 Central Avenue in Sea Isle City.
Whether you once were organized or never quite got the hang of it, this workshop will give you real life, practical ways to clear the clutter. Classes will focus on different rooms of your home and offer you quick & easy skills to sort what you use & love and then be able to find it anytime you need it!

The Cape May County Library invites the public to join the “Feast of Thrones Cooking Demonstration” presented by Chef Adam Formento at 6:00 p.m. March 6. The program will take place at the Cape May Court House Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
Enjoy the culinary landscape of the seven kingdoms! The Game of Thrones is a popular fantasy novel by writer George R.R. Martin which has been adapted into an original HBO series. In this cooking demo Chef Adam Formento will prepare recipes based off passages in the novel with local ingredients. This program is perfect for people who are hosting a season premiere party, and for people looking for unique recipes.

County Library Hosts Tarot Interpretation Classes
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join “Life Interpretations: The Psychology of Tarot” presented by Joan Quilligan. This six week course begins at 6:00 p.m. March 7. The program will take place at the Cape May Court House Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
This proactive class will incorporate different aspects of exploration as well as practical aspects and applications/interpretations of tarot. The word psychology means “study of the soul.” It has been claimed that the word tarot comes from the Egyptian words tar, meaning “road.” The Tarot therefore represented a “royal road to wisdom.” The classes would simply be a doorway, or perhaps, royal road or way to self, and a development of that part of ourselves.

County Library Hosts Movie Night
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend a viewing of the film All is Lost. The program will take place at the following dates and places:

• March 12 6:00 p.m. at the Cape May Court House Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
Academy Award-nominated writer/director J.C. Chandor (Margin Call) takes the helm for this tense adventure drama about a man (Robert Redford) who must fight for survival after being lost at sea.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “My First Computer Class” given by the Technology Learning Center at 6 p.m. March 11. The program will take place at the Main Branch of the Library located at 30 Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
In this course for beginners, we’ll introduce you to basic computer terms and get comfortable with the layout of the keyboard. There will be plenty of opportunity to practice mouse skills, and get one-on-one help from the instructors.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Natural Cape May” presented by Mike Crewe at 6:00 p.m. March 13. The program will take place at the Cape May City Branch Library located at 110 Ocean Street in Cape May City.
Take a look at the natural world in Cape May County and find out what is happening in the world beyond the front door. Birds, mammals, flowers, insects and much more, all come under the spotlight as we look at what to expect now and in the coming month.

County Library Hosts Beginner Crochet Classes
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join “Crochet for Beginners” presented by Jennifer Bolton. This two day workshop will be held March 15 and 22 at 10:00 a.m. The program will take place at the Woodbine Branch Library located at 800 Monroe Street in Woodbine.
Students will learn different stitches and how to read patterns during this workshop. This class is strongly recommended as a prerequisite for students who have no previous experience crocheting and wish to attend the more intermediate crotchet workshops offered by the Cape May County Library. All students will be required to bring a J hook and 1 skein of #4 weighted (smooth) yarn.

County Library Hosts Interpretive Nature Walks
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join monthly interpretive nature walks. This month will feature “First Signs of Spring” presented by Sam Wilson of the Nature Center of Cape May at 9:30 a.m. March 15. The program will take place at the Upper Cape Branch Library located at 2050 Route 631 in Petersburg.
The Nature Center of Cape May will present a nature walk series for all ages on the third Saturday of each month, from October through March. This month, Sam will focus on key clues in nature that signal the first signs of spring. Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars. There will be a limited quantity available.
Adopted by the New Jersey Audubon Society in 1995, the Nature Center of Cape May is one of nine staffed nature centers throughout the state. The environmental education campus, located on the shores of beautiful Cape May Harbor in Cape May, includes the Trucksess Welcome Center, a three story observation tower, and multiple themed display gardens. County Library Offers Program on “Picasa Basics”
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Picasa Basics” given by the Technology Learning Center at 10:30 a.m. March 15. The program will take place at the Main Branch of the Library located at 30 Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
Picasa is a free software program that helps you organize and edit your photos. We’ll go over the basics so that you can make your favorite photos better, and share them with friends.

County Library Holds Book Sale
The Cape May County Library will be holding a three day book sale beginning March 17 and ending March 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The book sale will take place at the Cape May Court House Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
The library book sale is a great opportunity to increase one’s own personal library or find a gift for a friend. On the first day of the book sale hardcover and soft cover books will be 25 cents, magazines and small paperbacks will be 10 cents, cassettes and videos will be 50 cents and DVDs and CDs are 1 dollar. On the second day of book sale all items will be half price. On the third and final day of the book sale shoppers can fill a bag for 1 dollar.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Microsoft Powerpoint 2010 Basics” given by the Technology Learning Center at 2 p.m. March 17. The program will take place at the Main Branch of the Library located at 30 Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
Learn the basics for creating presentations to communicate your information and keep your audience interested. We’ll be working with the 2010 version of Microscoft Powerpoint.

County Library Hosts Beginner Watercolor Art Course
The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Fearless Watercolors for Beginner Painters” instructed by Sue Rau. This six week course will begin at 9:30 a.m. March 18. The program will take place at the Upper Cape Branch Library at 2050 Route 631 in Petersburg.
This class is for new painters or painters who have some experience. We work at a slow pace which is individualized for you. Learn about color theory, how to get paper, paint, and water together without fear. Have some fun in a new experience. Give watercolor a chance!
Required materials for this class include paints (Burnt Sienna, Permanent Rose, Ultramarine Blue, and Aureolin or Grumbacher Yellow), brushes (#8 Round, #12 Round, #1 Rigger or Liner, and Large Flat for washes), 140 lb. paper, drawing paper, pencil, palette, water container, tracing paper tablet, paper towels, masking tape, board or foam core, and kneaded eraser.
Sue has been an artist in South Jersey for many years. She teaches at the Ocean City Arts Center and the Ocean City Fine Arts League. Rau shows her work at the OCAC, the OCFAL, the Riverfront Renaissance Arts Center, the Hammonton Arts Center, and now has a studio at The Consortium on High Street in Millville.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Fearless Watercolors for Intermediate Painters” instructed by Sue Rau. This six week course will begin at 1:00 p.m. March 18. The program will take place at the Upper Cape Branch Library located at 2050 Route 631 in Petersburg.
This class is for the painter with some experience painting in watercolor, and who have completed the beginner workshop. This will be a more independent learning experience. Learn new techniques and practice some of the old ones. We will critique our work at the end of each class. This class will move a bit faster and at a more independent pace.
In addition to the materials required for the beginner class, the intermediate class will also be required to bring include paints (Alizarin Crimson Red, New Gamboge Yellow, Burnt Umber, Titanium White, and Cerulean Blue), brushes (2 inch flat brush, large for washes, and an old brush for masking fluid), tracing paper, small watercolor tablet, pencil or graphite paper, masking tape, and a toothbrush.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to join “SOS: Seniors on Safety” presented by Kim Schunk, RN at 1:00 p.m. March 21. The program will take place at the Cape May Court House Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
This is a program designed to offer safety tips for your home, outdoors, general tips, and medication safety that can reduce the incidence and severity of falls. This program is very informative and fun for all.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to attend “Cape Cuisine: Cooks Side Dishes” presented by Chef Mark Kalla at 1:00 p.m. March 22. The program will take place at the Cape May Court House Branch Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
Chef Mark Kalla will demonstrate the aspects of preparing and cooking side dishes. Learn what side dish best compliments your entrée. Participants will be invited to sample the foods that have been prepared.

We have learned the basics of using a computer and how it works, now it’s time to take it to the next level. In this class we will show you a few concepts on how to use your computer like a pro. County Library Hosts Beaded Bracelet Workshop
The Cape May County Library invites the public to join the “Beaded Bracelet Workshop” presented by Betty Tocci at 1:00 p.m. March 28. The program will take place at the Wildwood Crest Branch Library located at 6301 Ocean Avenue in Wildwood Crest.
If you are interested in basic jewelry, beading techniques, and creative thinking, then this class is for you! Create a very simple, yet beautiful piece of jewelry to wear everyday or special occasions. Participants will learn how to design and make a bracelet under the instruction of Betty Tocci. At the end of this workshop, participants will have a completed simple peyote beaded bracelet.

The Cape May County Library invites the public to join “Project Restoring Hope: Cognitive Distortions” presented by Margaret Linn of Cape Counseling at 6:00 p.m. March 31. The program will take place at the Cape May Court House Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House.
Participants will about the connection between a situation, their thoughts and behaviors, examples of cognitive distortions, and effective cognitive behavioral therapy.

County Library Hosts Game Night for Teens
The Cape May County Library invites teens ages 13-20 to Game Night for Teens held from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays throughout February. The programs will take place at the Main Branch of the Library located at 30 W. Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House. Play the latest in console gaming Wii, PS3, and XBOX 360. Plus tons of other games like Apples to Apples, Munchkin, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Magic the Gathering! No registration is required for these programs.
