DENNIS—Halloween saw its annual invasion of ghouls, ghosts and assorted other things that go bump in the night but the haunting trick or treat action was centered around the middle school parking lot on Academy Road at what has become the annual Trunk or Treat event.
Sponsored by the Dennis Township Home and School Association and Municipal Alliance committee, Trunk or Treat offers children and families a chance to show off their Halloween finery, collect goodies and socialize.
Tribes of costumed revelers gathered in the middle school parking lot at dusk and awaited the magical hours during which candy and other goodies appeared in vehicle trunks.
The Home and School Association provided hot dogs, chips and drinks while the Municipal Alliance handed out Halloween bags with treats and goodies all having an anti-drug/anti-alcohol message. Other volunteers also brought various treats like cookies, brownies and more.
Organizers estimate that 86 cars, carrying over 300 attendees joined the festivities, making this Trunk or Treat the largest held to date.
Events like this are not possible without a great deal of volunteer effort. Many people donated hours of volunteer work to make it happen. These include Home and School Association President Krista Kelso and Vice-President Katie McGroarty, Kelli and Scott Turner, Courtney and Jay Hearon, Debbie Hope, Les Frie, Annie and Hal McDevitt, Deanne Carr, Barb McKeefery, the Dennis Volunteer Fire Company, the Belleplain Ambulance Corps and the NJ State Police Woodbine Barracks.
The Home and School Association organizes a number of events throughout the school year including the Mother/Son Sports Night and Father/Daughter Dance.
The Municipal Alliance Program works with schools and government and community groups to promote a drug and alcohol free environment.
